- I'm looking to get a stove/fireplace but I do not know where to start. Is there anything I should bring with me?
Please fill out this information sheet in order to help us find the right product for you. This sheet will help collect some basic information about what you are looking for in a stove or fireplace, how much space you are looking to heat, as well as give us some dimensions so we can help pick out the perfect size stove or fireplace for you. At minimum, please fill out the dimensions section so we know what size unit will fit into your space.
- What is the difference between an insert and a fireplace?
If you want to modify an existing metal or masonry fireplace to improve its efficiency and/or update its appearance, choose an insert. Fireplace inserts are heating units that retrofit into an existing fireplace (masonry or factory-built). They burn wood, gas or wood pellets and offer superior efficiency. Fireplace inserts utilize the existing chimney for venting though a flue liner that runs to the top of the chimney and is capped off with a chimney cap. Most have optional blowers to circulate the heat. Inserts are used to change an existing non-efficient fireplace into an efficient, heat producing zone heat.
If you’re building a new space from scratch or adding a fire to a space that’s never had a fire before, choose a fireplace. A factory-built fireplace is actually a firebox enclosed within a steel cabinet. A blanket of insulating air keeps the outer wall cool, land spacers surrounding the cabinet allow it to be installed in close proximity to the wood framing (hence the name "zero-clearance fireplace"). They pass rigorous testing standards established by Underwriters Laboratories and the American Gas Association and have an excellent safety record.Factory-built fireplaces are surprisingly inexpensive. They use a safe, lightweight chimney and do not need any additional footing or other structural support. Because they have fewer limitations than site-built masonry fireplaces, they can be easily and safely installed in almost any room. Factory-built fireplaces are available in a range of sizes, and can be open on one, two ("see-through"), or three ("peninsula") sides Brick, stone, marble and other facing materials can be combined with your choice of mantels to suit your decor.
- What are log sets?
For people who have an existing fireplace but seldom use it, a set of gas fireplace logs may be the best way to have dancing flames at your fingertips. Gas logs provide dramatic realism, from the lifelike ceramic fiber, concrete or refractory logs down to the glowing embers. These log sets have a burner that uses either natural gas or propane. Propane and natural gas fireplace inserts are an affordable way to revamp your existing fireplace.
Vented and Vent-free logs - Vented units have a spectacular flame pattern, but are decorative only as they usually give off less heat than a gas fireplace insert. Vent-free models offer high efficiency but may not be permitted in some areas (check with your local building official or hearth specialty retailer before installing any unit). Whether you want the look of a small split pine campfire or massive oak logs, there is a gas log set for you.
- Can I install my new stove/fireplace myself?
We highly recommend that all units are installed by a qualified installer who knows the local requirements and who can pull the appropriate permit. Proper installation will ensure your warranty is honored and that your unit is installed safely in your home. Our professional installers are licensed, insured and ready to install your new unit at your convenience.
